“Novel Evidence-Based Treatment of Soft-Tissue Defects”
This presentation is graciously co-sponsored by Geistlich Pharma North America, Inc.
The role and importance of hard-tissue in both the esthetics and health of the implant restoration are well understood. However, less appreciated is the mucosal component of the peri-implant tissue complex. Emerging research has shown the long-term benefits of soft-tissue augmentation therapy in fixture survival and esthetic outcome. This presentation will explore the various types of soft-tissue defects (gingival recession, lack of keratinized tissue, lack of tissue thickness, alveolar ridge defects) and their long-term implications. Different therapeutic interventions and available evidence will be discussed, from the traditional use of autologous tissue grafts to biologic mediators and new collagen matrices.
• Understand tissue phenotypes and defect classifications
• Understand the implications of soft tissue on dental and implant prognosis
• Explore treatment alternatives to correct soft tissue defects
• Review the literature of soft-tissue augmentation therapies
• Understand off-the-shelf alternatives to autologous grafts
